Sole trader bank account.

Have tried Santander, Nat West and Barclays as I need to open a new business account due to the demise of our Halifax business account. Internet advice indicates that the most cost effective way to run a sole trader account is through a personal current account. The three approached tell us this is not possible. Any advice on which banks might allow this. We need to trade and bank under our business name.

First Direct. I'm a sole trader (have been for over 10 years) and have my 'business' account with First Direct. They don't do business accounts.... so they were very happy to set me up a personal account instead. Never had any problem with this, it works fine.
Note that this has to be in your name rather than the business name, but I've never had any trouble with that. FD also put my business name on the cheques as well (below my name), so that might still be possible.
Hope this helps.
