Don't forget the free disposable gloves, paper towels and sand in a bucket for the spills.:D

I bet it's to keep an eye everyone filling up. If like you say, there are 20 pumps and it's busy, they won't be able to watch everyone and every pump at the same time as serving a massive queue. Which could make it easy for someone to fill up and drive off without paying and without the staff knowing straight away.

Those Tesco Express/Somerfield/Co-operative petrol stations must be a minefield. They also ask me if I have any fuel when just purchasing goods. And none of them seem to have a good view of the forecourt.

how long till someone gets killed with a single punch on a forecourt because of a queue jumping row for this over priced magic liquid? maybe it has happened already

Yes, every day I will see a queue of drivers waiting at a particular pump all in a line because their fuel cap is on the right, or left, as the case maybe.

Yet they don't seem to realise that the fuel hose at most garages will reach around the car to the other side when I do it at the vacant pumps.

    I get frosty looks.

    Exactly...

I can't count the number of times I have driven past two or three cars queuing for a pump on their filler cap side of their car and I have pulled up, and lain the hose across to the other side of my car, paid and gone. And they will still wait...
