Big problem uninstalling Mcafee Security Suite

Hello
To save I decided to save money and not renew my Mcafee. All was well on my computer, even though I installed Avast and ZoneAlarm before uninstalling Mcafee (boy did that slow it down)
Unfortunately I persuaded my husband to change to.............oops.
Uninstall is in 2 parts first from the computer, then online using their tool to remove the last bits.
Have uninstalled it from control panel and then rebooted, now it won’t open windows – I can only open it in safe mode. I have tried system restore, copying their cleaner file and running it, system restore again at an earlier point, but to no avail.
He is running windows 7, but uninstall instructions are the same for vista that I use
This is the first time I have been brave/desperate enough to post, so help would be greatly appreciated, it can’t be only me to have this problem!!

As could not get online, ran this file by downloading it and copying it over on memory stick. Seemed to work, but still the same problem when rebooting0

Uninstall avast and zonealarm
You should have removed mcrapee before installing either:idea:0
