Vauxhall Astra Service

Hi Guys,

Just wondered in anybody can help, I came into a little money last year and decided to treat myself to a brand new Vauxhall Astra which is now approaching 12 months old.

My service is now due and the local dealer is renowned for how expensive he is, I have a friend that informs me you do not have to go to a franchised dealer and as long as genuine parts are used it will not affect the warranty?

Can anybody confirm this is true, the dealer is being a little unhelpful when asked the question.

Thanks guys

This is true. The law was changed a while back to give consumers more choice. Supposedly, as long as an independant garage services your car according to the manufacturer's schedule, and using genuine manufacturer's parts, then the warranty is not affected.

But - and this is the biggie - should you ever need to claim on the warranty, can you prove that the conditions were met ? If the main dealer did the service they can't argue, but they could ask you to prove that the independant guy used genuine parts and did everything he was supposed to.

I think this is a great shame, as the idea is great in principle, stopping main dealers having a monopoly. But we all know how good they are at wiggling out of warranty repairs if they possibly can .....

Most Vauxhall dealers used fixed price menu servicing. Ring them up and ask. The first service for our Corsa was £112 which was reasonable for a main dealer.

first service should be a reasonable cost give a few vauxhall dealers a bell you will then see if you most local is expensive in comparison.first service is only oil and filter and kick of tyres really.
do remember synthetic oils are expensive so majority of cost will most likely be down to that, when i had a laguna under warranty it was due mot and service and was in for warranty reps so i got them to do the third service oil cost was about £100 as it took 6.7 litres.

if you do want to go indy then make sure they are vat registered and use genuine parts and recommended oil also follow the correct service schedule as listed in the service book.

Surely by the time you buy genuine service parts then pay someone labour to fit them you're not going to save that much for the hassle and you might end up having to fight with the manufacturer for repairs later?

Just ring a few local VX dealers and find the cheapest service price.

Then try and get the nearest one to price match the cheapest one!
