connection problem

in Techie Stuff
trying to charge and download music to my mp3 walkman although the connection chime operates there is no connection to the player to DOWNLOAD/CHARGE. DO I NEED SOFTWARE, dont have the bootup cd as its lost .connected to my dvd player and charges so is working

I'd guess you're probably running a version of Windows? USB support has been native to Windows since 98SE, so you should need no additional software provided it is capable of operating as a mass storage device (MSC mode). Even the more recent ones that support MTP are supposed to switch to MSC mode if MTP is not installed on the PC.
Does any other USB device work on the PC, and is it visible from within WMP?
If you're sure it's not even charging then there is a major fault, as all USB ports should supply 5V to any device, recognised or not, up to the port's current limit.0 -
are you using the supplied cable that came with the walkman?
I have two similar USB cables which fit my motorola, one works fine, the other will not even allow the phone to charge.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
