I've just found this
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Shot-Glass-Candles
and wanted to share. DH has an awful shot glass collection (I know, I know). Now I have something to do with them. I'm gonna get the kids involved and we can have little candles along the windowsill.
They could be pressies too - but I don't think DH would be too chuffed.
I usually do paper chains with DS and popcorn strings for the tree.
Anyone got any good ideas for more?

we make gingerbread angels and hang on our tree

Mini (cooking) marshmallows look great threaded on strings too (we use wire for these)
Salt dough stars are great for decorating....make a hole at the top, sprinkle glitter all over and then finish with a clear varnish. We had the same ones for years until they became damp in the loft
How about drying oranges/apples and making strings of them?
Homemade pot pourri.........collect nature bits and pieces on walks (mine even collected small twigs) with the children. Pop into a small basket and then just add either dry spices or an oil.
Fir cones ..either natural or decorated with glitter/white paint/gold spray
I always make a garland for my fireplace every year, which is really so simple. I use string and attach greenery with florist wire by just wrapping around the greenery and the string, and add dried fruits, cinnamon sticks, gold bows etc.
Sometimes I just add branches off the christmas tree to cabinets/shelves etc and then add a few fir cones, candles etc to decorate....really easy.0 -

Do you usually dry them in the oven? My prezzies this year are going to be wrapped in brown paper and plaid or gingham ribbon. I thought perhaps some dried oranges and cinnamon sticks may make it look quite professional and they'll be recycle-able

every christmas eve, we go for a long walk in the country, we collect all different types of leaves, berries, holly ect. i use these to make table decorations and fill vases, they usually last the whole of the holidays, they make it very festive and best of all they are completely free"Don't go where the path may lead,go where there is no path and leave a trail"Anthony Robbins0

These look like they could be made to look quite professional, and also great for kids to do

If you haven't got any PVA glue (or you're just plain mean, like wot I am), mix some flour and water, it works just as well.Bulletproof0 -
