I buy MrS basic biccies, usually rich teas as they are boring and it means I wont sit there and eat most of the packet!
Hubby like crisps, so I buy the basic ones of those too. I make cakes every now and then, other than that I buy treats occasionally if they are on offer.0 -
I've been cooking my own weight in bread and butter pudding of late, it's dead simple... layer of stale bread and butter, layer of sugar, layer of sultanas, (layer of bananas for me, yummy!) repeat to top of dish then pour over milk (I use evaporated milk because it's really creamy) with a couple of eggs beaten up into it then bake at 190/200 until the top browns and it smells nice (sorry, I don't do times!)Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
whats a micro cake?
It's just a cake cooked in the microwave like an upside down cake I've done it with all sorts of fruit and LO scoffs the lot. I figure it has a bit of fruit in so not bad
.
I made cookies today and they were SOOOOO good! Much cheaper than buying them, I probably spent around 70p if that (chocolate drops were 50p for a pack, most expensive thing in them!) and have 14/15 smaller ones, the recipe says 12 but they're really rich so downsized them a bit

My rare treat is cinnamon buns <drools> they are lush but VERY calorie laden. Perfect with a coffee in winter months. Only problem is one is never enough

There are two treats I have as "go to" recipes - sugar & spice rings and a chewy cookie recipe like the high street chain. The sugar & spice rings are just flour mixed with a little bit of butter and some milk, then it's a bit of melted butter mixed with sugar & cinnamon and some dried fruit. You roll it up like a sausage and cut it into about 12 pieces and bake in a hot oven for 15-20 minutes.
They're lovely and sticky and comforting. Bliss! They always get made for barbecues or parties.

We are a twinks household aswell i split the mix and keep half in the fridge to cook a batch every other day and often add in other bits to ring in some changes but they are filling so keep my hollow leg teenagers happy, and my grocery budget even happier, scones mix is another regular i make up a plain mix, split half for scones adding a handful of sugar/dried fruit and a handful for cheese and a teaspoon of mustard powder for cheese straws0

I'm trying to get back on top of my food budget and honestly, jam sandwiches are the way to go. Filling, reasonably good for you, cheap as anything. I normally hate brown bread but I quite like dunking the crusts into my tea. Now I can pretend my sweet tooth is contributing positively to my diet

Another one I make when jam sandwiches won't cut it but I can't be bothered to bake is those chocolate cornflake cake things. If you make it with dark chocolate and dried fruits it's sweet without hurting your teeth. And again you can pretend it's healthy!
(I don't find baking sweets to be at all moneysaving. It means I just bake instead of cooking, so all the veg goes off before we can eat it, and we die of scurvy. But I guess other people have more self-control!
