What OS treats do you always have?

Hello :D

Just getting into OS ways and was curious what treats/snacks people always have ready to go?

I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and always have lots of healthy things (fruit/rice cakes/dried fruit etc etc) but do like the odd treat:p

What things do you always have stashed in your biscuit tin for sweet tooth emergencies??

I try to buy things like fruit bars when I see them reduced. Not exactly OS, but it all helps. At the car boot sale, there are a couple of AP style stalls, so this week I bought a box of 36 fruit bars for £1.50. Very good value as you would usually have to pay about 40p each.
OS wise, twinks, of course, oaty shortbread.

We don't always have something in the biccy tin! Often though it is full of twinks hobnobs! If someone wants biscuits or cakes it tends to be a case of making it yourself, which is a throwback to when ds and dd3 were tiny and reacted badly to all sorts of things, so making it myself was the only option as then I knew exactly what was in it! It does mean now that all four of my kids can whip up cakes, muffins, biscuits etc quite quickly!

I have found since using this board I have cakes and cookies in all the time (not so good for my waistline!!!)

I make a micro cake every few days, we have it as pudding, part of a snack or a slice with a coffee in the afternoon :D

Cookies I freeze the dough and just slice off what I need, when I need it. Fruit salads, apple sticks etc go down well with my LO.

  • Thanks for your replies so far - I shall have a look at Twinks recipe! We do tend to make biccies/cakes as DD loves cooking and cracks a mean egg! Any more ideas?

    whats a micro cake?

i'm very bad my kids are all still very small and my days are very busy so i don't tend to bake am awful lot, but my youngest loves biccys as does his daddy, so we nearly always have value custard cream in (these are nicer than any branded ones i've ever tried) if i've just been shopping we'll have cookies aswell but they never last very long and are dearer for less so it's custard creams all the way

i never buy my kids chocolate tho because i know granny will give them some every saturday

i'm gonna try make choclate custard this week tho :) so that will be a lovely treat

I make Twinks HobNobs quite often and lots of different variations on a theme but I am partial to a very plain biscuit so Lidl's Rich Tea for something like 30p a packet satisfies that need. Weetabix brownies for a real and rare treat which has a 30p Value bar of chopped plain chocolate in it. Which reminds me: I may make some this afternoon while I've got the oven on for something else.

I have to say we are guilty of having too many 'treats' in our house. The kids now expect something when they come in from school/ nursery and DD1 has some for breaktime too. I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere for healthy treats for kids. My problem is..... my kids don't like them. I think I will stop buying so many and make HM instead, that'll make them eat less. They prefer shop-bought anything!!!!
Have to start next month tho, as I got too many in my shop from swinco this month!!

I buy fruit bars as well, only the basic ones or a decent offer. I always keep one in my bag incase of munches while I'm out.

I know I'd go in a cafe, you see, rather than be hungry for abit :o
