I used to go through loads of kitchen towel and am really trying, at the moment, to cut back so pleased you asked this question. Like others, I now keep a few old flannels amongst the t-towels for DGD's sticky fingers! I never use it for drying off crockery, always a t-towel. I keep a few old cloths under the sink for spills and drips (though do get fed up of forever washing them!). I use kitchen towel now mainly for food usage - mopping excess fat off things like sausage, chops, oven chips, etc. and mopping the last bit of liquid off beetroot, olives, pickled onions, etc. I just don't like the idea of using old t-towels for the job and having fatty cloths amongst the washing! Just cutting back these few ways has saved me a lot of kitchen towel!

I've got a ton of tea towels that I use, plus a few old cut up towels for particularly nasty stuff, so if I decide to bin one, I don't feel too badly. LOL

Me too. I buy ones that are mainly white when I spot them cheap. I use them for everything from handling a hot pan on the stove, to wiping up spills. I go through several a day and wash them together on a hot wash. If they get stained I'll soak them in bleach before washing them.

The only thing I use kitchen towel for is fatty spills, and draining fat from food, and disgusting things like wiping up the remains of a half eaten mouse that my cat has brought in :o

Just wondered if anyone has any ideas as I seem to get through loads of the stuff.

Doesnt sound like a lot but somehow I seem to use a lot.....

Hi, that sounds like a heck of a lot to me.
All I use paper towels for is hankies for a dribbly nose, because they are thicker than tissues. I get through two rolls a year :D

As people have mentioned, cut up old tea towels, sheets, towels, pillow cases, etc, then put in machine with normal wash.

Try rationing yourself to get usage down, stop buying them, and try not to spill anything. ;)

I bought loads of the 19p hand towels from Ikea I use some in the kitchen for wiping things down etc,I also use some for dusting and also use them to clean the bathroom.I make sure I keep the bathroom and kitchen ones seperate.well worth buying also they are a good size so you could cut them in half if you wanted.

    same here.

previously i've bought the tesco value ones you get 3 for 80p odd. but at the mo they are 3 or 2, so 9 t-towels for under £2.

I've found them brill. the plain white ones i bleach and they come up spotless.

i did used to buy expensive t-towel's. well not break the bank but i'd spend £4 per towel on a pretty one, lol. and i only did the same as i use the value ones for. so i thought why am i spending all this money on them. buying them so cheap i don't mind if i do have to throw them.

Going back to cost-effective paper alternatives, lucky for me this place is on our doorstep, so no delivery charges,. We use them for catering supplies, but they sell small scale to people who pop in too.

One roll (150m/1kg of 2 ply paper) from a 6 pack works out at £1.79 each and lasts for an eternity if you resist the urge to use it extravagently. We use the blue catering one which is a bit cheaper too. Makes me cringe when I see people pulling miles of it out of the dispenser to dry their hands in the ladies loos! Very handy to keep in the car for emergencies as well if you've got kids.

See if you've a similar place locally or Chinese supermarkets often sell it too in their janitorial sections. Check the price though because it varies wildly!
