If she was hit from behind, then it is down to that car to pay for repairs, so she shoudl be covered.

Obviously the concern will be if the police are involved they may take further, but the repairs should be covered.

Is it obvious that she was commuting?

I would think so, unfortunately. Rush hour..... between place of work and home

Could she not otherwise have been going to a different appointment? Of going shopping? Does everyone know where she works to know she was between her home and work?

Have the police been involved? if not, there should be no problem - but get commuting added.

Repairs should be down to the driver who hit her, to be honest even if she did not have insurance at all it would still be their responsibility.

Do not start making up stories to make out she was not commuting, there is no need, she will only dig herself in deeper.

But in turn, the car in front that she went into will be looking to her for their repairs

Even if she had no insurance at all, it can't affect the claim. The third party will pay if they're liable.

Will they ask if she is commuting? I have never seen an accident form specifically ask this, but I may have just missed it as I have never had to claim myself.

But if she was hit from behind and there is no liability issue she could claim direct from the 3rd parties insurance.

can the car in front of her claim from the third car that caused the accident?

Not directly i think - the car in front has to claim from her (as it was her who hit them) and in turn she seeks to pass the cost of the claim on to the car behind...

(I know someone who was involved in a multiple shunt once and it took ages to sort out because of this....)

The car in front will either claim off their own insurance or off your daughter directly (she should pass any claims straight on to her insurer to deal with).

Hopefully all insurers involved will ultimately agree that the liable party is the one who hit your daughter in the rear, in which case they will pay for everyone's repairs.

But it's inevitable that your daughter's insurer is going to want to know the details of this incident, and if any claim from any party is made may well ask the purpose of the journey. This is when she might end up without cover for the incident.

Your daughter can be certain her repairs will be paid for by claiming off the car which hit her. Though should the car in front succesfully claim against her then her insurer could pay out but then come to her for reimbursement.

Whatever the outcome, she needs to change her cover now to include commuting!

Never even realised there was an option that did not include travelling to and from your place of work.
