Is there a market in renting houses in suburbs?

In busy (expensive) cities, people are keen to rent flats and it makes sense.

I have the opportunity to buy a house out in the suburbs with a view to letting it out.

It's a semi, nice cul-du-sac, 2 bedroom, upstairs bathroom/toilet, downstairs toilet, proper back garden, garage, excellent potential transport links into central London. Station is a 15 min walk away (train can take you into Moorgate in 20 mins).

Is this the kind of property that people (a family?) would want to rent? Do families commonly rent whole houses?

Worthwhile thing for me to consider?

TIA :)

Even couples commonly rent whole houses; two bedrooms isn't that big!

You could ask a local estate agent (not the one marketing the property) what the local rental market is like, and what sort of rent you might be able to expect for the property you are looking at.

You could also check rentals on Rightmove yourself, and see what sort of prices LLs are asking for for that sort of property. If there are other LLs wanting less money than you would need for a reasonable return, then it's probably not worth considering.

Where is the property, what is the price? two bed semi = small new build'ish. You need to work out your costs and returns.

There's always a market for decent family homes within commuting distance of Central London, even a modest two-bed. You absolutely need to research what other comparable properties are renting for in that area to work out what your yield will be for your business-plan.

Sorry: LLs = landlords. Ts are tenants, and LAs are letting agents :)

Many thanks, will check out the figures. It sounds like a potential plan to me. :)
