I have today had reason to contact Owners Direct to let them know that my rental in August had been cancelled. Having paid a deposit of £960 I was concerned that I might not get this back. Owners direct offer no protection if an owner you rent from decides not to return your deposit. The only thing they will do is send an email to the owner. Should this not prove successful in obtaining the refund there was nothing else they would do.
Renters should be aware that most insurance companies do not cover for this type of lose as it is very common place!
Owners Direct offer absolutely no protection and further more where quite unsympathetic to my plight.

I will not be using this sites again. I have used it to book villas a few times in the past and have been lucky. This year I booked a villa in Spain after receiving an email response to my enquiry on the site. All seemed ok and above board so I made a bank transfer but when I contacted the 'owner' for address details, it was clear I had been scammed. I called the number of the owner on the site and he had no knowledge of my booking
I admit I didn't speak direct to the owner when I made the booking, but I had previous good experience using the site so my guard was down. The account of the owner must have been compromised because the response to my original message included details I had entered in the website. For this reason, I believe there is some onus on either the website or on the owner to ensure their accounts are secure.
The website have not responded to my complaint and the owner didn't seem that bothered either. Result, I'm Euro1500 out of pocket, and I won't be using the site ever again. I urge all of you to avoid this site.
