I think were talking less than £200 here.

I think you should pay up, as fighting it will cost you more than this.

In order to give a proper answer we would need to know the following:

    1. How was the work quoted and authorised?

    2. Was the Estate Agent notified that you did not wish to purchase before the electrician picked up the keys?

    3. Can the Estate agent confirm the electrician picked up the keys?

    4. Can the electrician prove that the work was done?

OP does not really make a lot of sense. Starts off saying that an Electrician was asked to carry out a safety inspection on the property, next we are advised that work was carried out on the property. I presume the "work" in question was the inspection. The call from the Electrician saying the work (inspection) had been done would not have fulfilled the request because a written report would have had to be provided giving his findings and recommendations. No mention is made of this . I feel the questioner has left out chunks of the narrative.
Why no request to Electrician to indicate fee at time of giving instruction.

My point exactly, if there was an inspection carried out then where is the Inspection Report.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • If you read the original post it clearly says that he instructed 1. a house survey and 2. a separate electrical safety check. The first one failed so he cancelled the second one. What he failed to tell us is at which point was the estate agent informed that he was no longer going ahead with the purchase as they would have asked for the keys back from the electrician and possibly have a record of this.

So where is the written report ? The instruction was for a
    full electrical check.
..That would not have been satisfied otherwise

Quite - the work can only have been for a PIR.

    Quite right too...

Sometimes it's a shame that people don't talk to each other BEFORE they talk to others about the problem.
