Suggestions for some easy soak up food the day after a party

Hi all,
OH has a rather landmark birthday coming up and we are having a party at home. We will have 12 people (including our family) staying overnight and I would like to make a lunch for us all for the Sunday but feel I may be a little 'delicate' and not quite up to putting a roast together so am looking for ideas of things I can make in advance and serve.
I had thought of a beef stew, but for 12 (very greedy) people that could work out quite expensive. I am serving chicken the day before so would rather avoid that and am also trying to stay away from spaghetti Bolognese / chilli etc. just to be a bit different. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I have a recipe somewhere for pork in cider, which would be nice heated and served with jacket potatoes.0

Oven baked bacon & leek risotto? Or make a big pot of soup the day before (or even the day before that!) & reheat with lots of crusty bread?0

Hi Frugal
My only problem with a lasagne (other than I make it so often I wonder if DD's boyfriend thinks I can't cook anything else:D) is that one of the guests is coeliac and although in the past I have made her her own gluten free version I would rather make something we can all tuck into - sorry should have mentioned that.0 -

Both sound delicious - can you link me to the recipes please?0 -
I think the food you want after a big party night is either really ''unchallenging'' to the palate....and soaks up.(think what you'd want if no gathering..English breakfast even if its middle of the day, or toast...). OR mega health stuff...fighting it not ith ''soak up food'' but with fresh fruit juices for vitamins. I think your meat stew is a good one...BUT if it wer me I'd be doing a big, late brunch (premaking things like muffins making an interesting fruit salad the day before - eg I made a fruit salad of orange, dates, orange flower water and cinnamon and star anise last weekend) and a big jug of Tomato juice with worcestershire sauce and celery sticks (those not driving home can hair of the dog with gin for a bloody mary) and orange juice (again, non drivers could add some bubbly wine). For ease I'd grill rashers of streaky bacon, make a big bowl of scarmbled eggs and then that, and some american pancakes, could be the only real cooking...Good bread, cold meats, cheeses and some pastries for a continental touch and ease...and that ''soak up '' qaulity.....easy hosting, easy for guests and can be very, very chic!0

Stodge, fat and spice do it for me when I am hungover - so a big pan of keema peas with rice and naans would be my choicePeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
