Backing for a rug

I recently bought a beautiful chenille rug but am already experiencing problems with it as it's simply not stiff enough and just ripples and moves around with the slightest touch.

I've tried some of that rubbery stuff that people put on car dashboards to stop stuff slipping and that helps it with the slipping at the edges but it's still to floppy. Would anyone have any idea of where I can buy something to stiffen it?

I'm not saying this will work and i have no doubt that somebody much wiser than me in "the stiffining of rugs" would advise you better but could u not get some spray on starch and coat the back of the rug in it? Hope this does not sound too daft.

Thanks for the thought Ben. This occurred to me too but I frequently use spray starch so already know it would not be strong enough for the job.

Thanks again for the thought though.
