Changes to DLA??? Am I entitled??

Hi all.
I made a claim for DLA in september and was turned down and have appealed. I have my tribunal on Friday and I am terrified! I am so not sure what to expect and I am having to go alone due to not having anyone to come with me, all I know is that there will be 3 people there to talk to me. I have also been told by a friend that the government are changing who can claim DLA and that people who work won't be able to claim anymore. I do work as i have a work place who are really supportive of me and my disability and have gone out of their way for me to be able to stay in work.
Is this true what my friend has said? I am really confused as to why they would stop it just because people work, surely this will encourage people not to work??? I am really confused and am doubting as to whether I should go to the tribunal if i know that they won't give it to me just because I work.

Any advice would be great.

Many thanks

If your doctor does not believe you I dont think the appeal panel will, do you have evidence to back up your claim?
  • My dr does believe me and am under care of my consultant and pain clinic have had lots of problems in the past but have had X-rays to prove my problems.

Best not to rely on what friends say, especially when it's apparent they don't have a clue.
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • So they are wrong then? I am still entitled even though I work?

I think your friend is wrong about work. The DLA reform consultation document stated that it was going to continue to be a benefit which help support disabled people work when they can.
'By giving people the right level of support through Personal Independence Payment, I hope that many more disabled people will be able to work and enjoy the advantages that an active working life can bring.'

(Personal Independence Payment is what they're hoping to replace DLA with).
  • Ok it seems my friend has got it very wrong then which is great I did think it would be strange for them to not allow people to claim just because they work!

    it must be wednesday....:rotfl:
  • Thank you everyone. I am trying to get someone to come with me, but it is hard as it's at 3pm and school pick up time, all the people
I would ask I have and they all say school pick up and my mum is picking up my daughter for me, and my partner has our other daughter who we need to find childcare for (my mum can't as she is also disabled and wouldn't be capable of looking after them both.

    hi all,
I hope I can find someone here who can help and advise me....
I have applied for DLA in May 2010. I got the decision in October and as you can guess, they turned me down for both components.
I got a diagnosis of major depression with pschosis and I use 3 medicines for that..In addtion I have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and high blood pressure.(all were diagnosed before the decision)
On the other hand, I have canal stenosis on my lower back for 5 years which was worsened after a bus accident last year and I cannot currently walk without a crutch and cant leave my home if there is no one with me.
I coudnt be able to work since july 2010, mainly due to my mental health and due to trying to kill myself. and receiving ESA with support group without a medical.
I asked for reconsideration for my dla, wrote a letter to them explaining how my conditions affect me, side effects of 8 medicines I use everyday also sent in 3 reports from my psychiatrist, 2 reports from the pysiotherapist and 2 from occupational t. 1 from gp, they still refused.
I got my tribunal hearing next wednesday and I am worriying about this as I dont know what to expect apart from seeing 3 people questioning me about my conditions.
If anyone can answer, What do you think my chances are at the tribunal???
Is there a possibility that they can agree with the DLA people saying I have no care needs neither I am virtually unable to walk??
If it sounds that I am entitled to it what component do you think it should be and what rate?? and what is the likely period that they might award it for?(i am having the mental health issues for almost 2 years now)
I know some people may laugh at me for these questions or some may think how stupid i am asking these here....
But I truly need someone to reply whatever the answer is pleaseeeee
