eshul - I'm the same, I consider myself fairly bright, certainly not stupid enough to click on the "you've won a new car" adverts, and I know I could turn off UAC in 30 seconds or less, but I see it as a layer between my arrogance and the system, it might just save me from my own stupidity one day, and for that it stays..the annoyance of "Do you want to allow the following program..." is far less than the one I'd feel if I had to actually make use of my backups.

I think the UAC is a good idea, except that you can turn it off. The UAC is an example of windows trying and failing to copy linux's sudo command.

I'm glad that it can be turned off - I've had problems with certain installers that fail to work with UAC enabled.

In any case, it's my computer. I don't want to software to tell me that I can't do anything, even if there's no good reason to want to do it. Computers should help me do what I want - not enable large corporations to tell me what I'm permitted to do. By all means ask me if I'm sure, but don't tell me I can't! :p
