Refused Blue Badge- help

Got a letter today, I have been refused a Blue Badge on the grounds that I have failed to provide the council with adequate evidence that I am disabled.

I do not get DLA (though I have applied).

I contacted the council before applying and explained I don't get DLA, but I'm in constant pain, i cannot walk more than 1 step without being in dsevere discomfort and cannot walk more than 20-30 meters without being severely out of breath and needing to rest.

The council said it was fine, to put that on my form and they would contact my doctor for further information. I have contacted the GP surgery and they have had no letter from the council.

What shopuld I do now.

If I request a letter from my doctor to confirm my disability that costs me £30.

Any help appreciated.

I would phone the council to check that they have actually sent out the form first. Then make an appointment with your GP and let him know that you have applied and that he/she will have to fill out the form and send back to the council. It has not probably been posted out to your GP yet, you know how slow the council can be sometimes.
But if that is the case how can they have refused the application? Surely they would have to wait for the doctors report before making the decision.

I don't know a great deal about the regs behind the Blue Badge scheme, but it may be that they are not obliged to contact your GP. If this is the case, get a report yourself, the small outlay in the short term will be easily paid back through the long term benefit.
    Gone ... or have I?

Or wait to see what DLA award you then re-apply f you receive HRM.

I would phone the Blue badge department and see whats going on

I thought that if the person did not have Mobility someone with medical knowledge looked at it.

I know someone who has the blue badge but not mobility allowance.

tessie bear You can claim for a BB without dla but you may be asked for a test to demonstrate you need one. My daughter failed test and dla but appealed both times and now get both although she can have a bb automatically now

I have never applied for DLA, but was granted a Blue Badge - they did contact my GP to confirm my mobility problems, and I had mentioned to him that I was applying for one before I did. I didn't have to do any test. In fact I heard from my GP that they'd been approached for confirmation before I received the letter about the Blue Badge.

Just spoken with the Blue Badge team at the council.

They say that my description of 'knee pain' is too vague and I need to write giving a full description of what I suffer from and what is causing it.

I asked why my GP has not been written to and they say they no longer write to GP's as some are quick to respond and some not, so a Government directive is to have the applications reviewed by a Health professional who will make their decision.

In my council, unless certain criteria are met (including HRM) then ALL applicants have to be medically assessed in person. I got my blue badge this way, whilst waiting for my DLA to be processed.

Not surprisingly they have far fewer BB issued in my area.
Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!

It would be much better if everywhere was the same, to many people get BB's when they dont need them.
