You're not helping, I haven't said I'm trying to get out of paying. If it comes down to it I will have to but all I've asked for is advice on how to deal with this because I've got the shop on the phone asking what's going on and I don't know what to tell them.

    Two seperate issues :

    1) The shop gave you cash on the basis the cheque would clear. It bounced. You need to repay the shop. How ? See 2.

    2) Your company haven't paid you. They've given you a worthless bit of paper, a promise to pay - it bounced. Two issues - a) demand your wages now i.e. today not whenever and b) bouncing wages cheques generally mean a company is in trouble, so don't take any bs and demand your (in arrears) wages now.
  • Ok, have had a call back from Payroll and they are sending a replacement cheque to the cheque casher. Apparently there was a cross over of payments in the business account?? Anyways, I've told the cheque casher to expect a cheque in the post, so that should be the end of it.

Thank you everyone for your help :-)

They charged me commission when I cashed it, if that's what you mean?

Just thinking that the way these companies operate then there is likely to be a charge for bounced cheques and interest etc. This is how they work unfortunately, read the small print and ensure theres not a charge there thats going to increase.

Not the best way to do it. Get payroll to give you the cheque and take it in to the cheque casher yourself.

Otherwise you become very vulnerable to the cheque casher saying that they have not received the cheque and your payroll saying it has cleared - and you will never be able to get to the bottom of it.

I was just going to write the same thing. I would find it hard to believe that the OP won't get a charge tbh.:o

  • There was me thinking it was all sorted :( Turns out the repayment cheque to the casher company bounced as well, because my employers are having 'money issues'. What the flip do I do now??

Go sit in the wages office until they can give you the cash that is owed to you-don't accept another cheque!
