Council tax benefit - LA use their own income figures despite providing actual ones

I applied for council tax benefit and when I got the claim back from the Local authority, the figures they have used for tax credits where different than what I get with every 4 week payment by a few quid. When I queried this, they said they used the figures HMRC have given them.
Does that mean that they use tables given to them to fudge the claim or are HMRC providing the evidence when I don't need to?

no it does not mean they use tables given to them to fudge claims.
all local authorities have access to something called the customer information system (cis) on this they can find up to date wtc and ctc figures they are using.
the la would have simply have used these figures.
if they didnt use the cis then they could have contacted the tax credits office to get up to date figures and used them0
