service agreement insurance help please

First off let me say hi

The wife and i have been lurkers on this forum for some time and have put the advice given to good use what a fantastic site .

Now i have a problem that i cant seem to find an answer to.

we have or should say had a mastercare service agreement for our camcorder that we purchased in summer 2003.

The camera a sony dcr-pc8 was in its day a very good camera and suited my uses very well even by todays standard.

Due to an unfortunate catalogue of events the camera had to be sent off to the tech guys the service i have recieved from them has been great no complaints there .

They now have been in touch and said the camera is beyond repair and they have given me the voucher code to go and replace the item from curry's .

Great i thought what fantastic service ....now heres the catch and where i need some advice please.

They have offered me £219.99...this is the price of the sony dcr-sr15 hdd camera .

This video camera comes no-where near the specs of my old video camera.

I understand that technology marches on with a relentless stride.

But this sony dcr-sr15 hdd camera in my opinion is a mile away from what i had regards the specs, am i asking too much.

any help would gratefully received before i venture into the local curry's store and make a fool of myself .

How was the old camera better? the SR15 has higher pixels, a bigger screen, less consumables etc
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

i understand what you are saying.

i did not want to list all the difference's here and bore the socks of of people..

but the main things for me are..

    no view finder
    no night vision/night shot
    no audio in for dubbing
    no touch screen navigation
    no hot shoe
    no remote control/wireless control

these are just some of the difference's without going into a full specs sheet between the two

Walking into Curry's and claiming the SR15 isn't has good as the PC8, is like walking into a candy shop and asking for a bananananana. You just don't do it.

After 8years, i'm guessing it would be hard to find something better. Especially if your last camera served you well.
But, if the product isn't for you, go change it. Before its too late!

yes that is correct £219.99 for an 8 year old camera does seem a fair price, but there own service agreement states they will replace with a similar spec machine.

although the sensor resolution is 160k better than my old camera this one is no-where near the rest of the specs of my old one

Fair enough then, you've paid for the policy, you've nothing to lose from rejecting their opening offer. There'll always be some feature that may have since fallen out of fashion in the last 8 years which you could point to and say 'it doesn't do this' so you've got to be sensible.

Have you found a spec that you would consider equivalent enough and got a price for that?

Sigh, the Offer you were given is very resonable and allows you to purchase a much better camera compared to the older one, but if you want to get spec for spec than go and choose a 0 Lux Camcorder and take the SKU/product to the service desk and ask them to override the voucher price

    Quick search shows
    This with 0.4 Lux

so you would be happy with the offer ?

and when you say much better i presume you are referring to the 160k more resolution on the optics.

i'am not looking for betterment here or looking for approval to try and get a better camera.

There is a marked difference in specs between the cameras and all i'am asking is can they do this?
I don't like to complain and most of these guys that work in these retail outlets don't need the grief.

Hence the reason why i registered on this forum so i could try and get some solid advice so to avoid confrontation in the store.

thanks very much for the replies.
