@ key not working

Have just bought a new netbook with Windows XP. The @ key does not work. Obviously this my PC. Help me please.

What do you mean it doesn't work?

When you press it does it do another key? Such as "?

If it has a UK keyboard (£ above 3), then you need to change the keyboard to UK (from US usually) in control panel, regional/language, languages, details

Count yourself lucky - sometimes after a night at the pub my winkey doesn't work.

Checked the settings. Already set for UK. First attempt at @ gives nothing and second attempt gives 3 or 4 little dots.

Yes and the shift is working in other respects.
