Renewing MOT early

I am taking my car abroad for 3 months on 28/3/2011. My Mot expires 11/5/2011 and my certificate says the earliest I can have the MOT renewed is 12/4/2011.
Can I have the MOT done earlier ie before 28/3/2011?
Thanks for any advice.

    Of course you can.

That 'earliest date' is the earliest that an mot can be done and the expiry remain at 11 May 2012.

One thing I've often wondered about is the validity of the previous MOT if you get an old car done every six months.

It has been suggested to me on a number of occasions on old cars to get the MOT done every six months, then sell the car with six months' ticket if it fails on something non-trivial.

I've never done it, and don't intend to, but I've remained curious as to whether this would actually work.
