Renewing MOT early

Of course you can.I am taking my car abroad for 3 months on 28/3/2011. My Mot expires 11/5/2011 and my certificate says the earliest I can have the MOT renewed is 12/4/2011.
Can I have the MOT done earlier ie before 28/3/2011?

That 'earliest date' is the earliest that an mot can be done and the expiry remain at 11 May 2012.0 -
One thing I've often wondered about is the validity of the previous MOT if you get an old car done every six months.
It has been suggested to me on a number of occasions on old cars to get the MOT done every six months, then sell the car with six months' ticket if it fails on something non-trivial.
I've never done it, and don't intend to, but I've remained curious as to whether this would actually work.0
