Thanks everyone, I think I will go with the cheque idea so I can cancel it when the HPI checks are done if it fails.
NeverAgain: The Polo is up for £2200, so was thinking of around £500 for a deposit.

Flyboy, having seen your comments across the forums over the last few days, may I offer you a little friendly advice?
Underneath a post you will see the 'thanks, quote button" etc the one I have highlighted in red here:
is the multiquote button. When you want to quote a post, press it, then press it again on the next post you want to quote until finally you post a response containing all your quotes rather than 4 or 5 individual posts.
