bare root perennials, or plug plants?

It depends on the plant really, most bare root perennials on sale now will grow away without any problems
Plug plants tend to be annuals not perennials, and they also tend to be half hardy [will not stand cold / frost] such as busy lizzies
As you are central Scotland, at the moment bare root perennials would be your best bet for now. I noticed Wilkinsons & B & Q have plug tomatoes and other tender plants on sale now, for any new gardeners reading this, do not buy them now, it is much too earlyEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Not too early if you stick them on your windowsill.
I have 165 geraniums sitting on my window sill right now lol0 -
the plants I am interested in are perennials, delphiniums, lupins etc. They seem to be available as plug plants or dry root plants. I take it the dry root plants will be older? if i buy them, do I just literally dig a hole and stick them in?
I know..... that's how novice I am hehehee Thanks for the help0 -
The plug plants will be a lot younger lol - probably just a few weeks. Bare root plants wil certainly be a lot older or they wouldn't survive, probably minimum a year, no doubt a lot more costly?0

Well the bare root plants will be bigger and give you a better show, earlier0

Thank you, I'll go for them then0

Yes, easy as that, it helps to just soak the roots in a bucket of water for an hour or so before you bung them in, do not plant out if ground is frozenEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

Lidl have got a good selection of bare root perennials that went on sale today.
The good news is: they are only 79p each.
I picked up a few packs incl real geraniums.
Morrisons also have a selection of bare root perennials on sale at the mo, good price.0
