I use Sat Nav and Maps.

What I hate about Sat Navs is when they try to send you on a busy long winded route because it's 0.2miles less than the straight easy direct route.

Had this not long ago, I was in the outskirts of Newcastle and instead of just sending me down 3 duel carriageways (A1058, A19, A189) to get home, it wanted to send me through Newcastle city centre at rush hour. Arrgh!

Exactly, they just ain't very clever.

My £2 road atlas would never do that.. ;)

Ive driven hundreds of thousands of miles (closer to the million) all around Europe and the UK and my trusty AA Road Atlas has never let me down, cost me a couple of quid every couple of years.

Have you got it set to "shortest route" rather than "fastest route"?

I miss my old Garmin Streetpilot III that I had in 2003. It had a mode where you could plot your route in advance on a computer, then upload it to the satnav. It then served purely as a directions giving device that was far superior to a map as it always knew where you were.

I don't think it lets me select. It does usually offer 2 or 3 routes for most journeys. As it did for going there but for coming back it only offered the one route. Luckily I already knew how to get back the easy straight forward way.

    It is a Navigon 1400.
