Thanks Sammy...I thought that even if we paid now, we still had to pay based on the date of the wedding. I looked at the online form just now - it asks for date of wedding but then lets you enter the fee yourself. I guess they'd throw it back if you didn't pay enough tho lol
I might try to call them..I need to check they've got all the documents from where we gave notice as they said they'd send it all on for us, but when Chester sent the pack out they seemed to ask for it again (though might be a standard letter for everybody)
Probably will pay online...I spend most of my pennies on the internet it seems :)

    Hi...

Just wondering if you can help me - myself and my H2B have booked a venue in Cheshire and need to contact the Cheshire West and Chester Register Office to give notice of our wedding however (I know it may seem like a daft question) but how do we give notice?

Do we have to visit them with certain documents (or if so what documents?) My H2B and I both live in Brum (we're having a wedding in the middle as my parents are from Blackpool and his are from Brum.)

Many thanks (in advance) for your help and for hopefully clearing things up for me.

no prob- both me and ellay are in the same boat as u-
my venue is in cheshire and i live in flintshire- therefore i gave notice in flintshire-so you give notice to the place you live. here shows the dics you need http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/cs/Satellite?c=Page&childpagename=Register-Office%2FPageLayout&cid=1223092615127&pagename=BCC%2FCommon%2FWrapper%2FInlineWrapper
    hope that helps

    Thanks Sammy!

I've emailed the stuff to the H2B so hopefully together we'll be a bit more clued up.

We probably can't do anything yet cos we're getting married in June 2012... Although on the Chester/Cheshire website we could provisional book a registrar 2 years before the date. Presumably we have to give our notice of marriage first (which according to Brum is only valid for 12 months.)

    Thanks again!

No you don't...book your Chester registrar as soon as you get your venue or you could struggle to get a slot...they hold it for you until you give your notice so do that in Brum as soon as you can, then tell Chester and your booking gets confirmed. I booked our registrar 20 months before our wedding and still couldnt get the time slot I really wanted, and we couldsnt give notice in Crewe until 12 months before - the 12 months notice applies everywhere. And remember it's the date AFTER your wedding day ie we get married 15th October so had to give notice from 16th as it runs out on the 15th the following year

yep registrars get booked up- so u must book your date/time of the cermoney asap. we booked ours on 1st july 2010 for 23rd july 2011 and they only had 4pm left- and that was just over a year to go. we then gave notice in aug 2010 in flintshire

So do we just ring up Cheshire/Chester register office and can then book a registrar by phone? (and send the £130 by post to secure it?)

Or do we have to travel up there and arrange it face to face?

Sorry if I'm being a pain but I am completely clueless!

No, ring them up...I think you can fill something in and pay online - sure that's what I did. Go on that link sammy posted and it'll take you to the weddings page and there'll be a number. Was pretty straightforward but they really do get booked up. Where in Chester have you chosen?

A hall in Northwich :) What made you choose Chester Zoo ellay? It's definitely somewhere different - are you the first to get marry there? (You could start a trend)

Hmmm... I think the H2B might be getting a little annoyed with my over-enthusiasm for the wedding and for getting stuff sorted asap...

Still he now has the links via email, although I don't think I did the best thing emailing him whilst he was watching some NASA stuff on his computer... Ooops lol!
