Recording to dvd from VHS

I have an LG dvd recorder and some tapes which I'd like to burn to dvd. Now, it's not a simple case of pressing play on vhs and record on the LG because it doesn't work like that. I've connected the two by scart and tried various combinations but still can't get it to record from vhs. The manual is very confusing. Any ideas?
TIA

Check the dvd recorders handbook, has it got an analogue or AV input?
If so thats what you need to select, on my old panasonic you had to use the red white and yellow phono inputs.
BTW Whats the model number. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

It is just like that with my LG. Scart from VHS recorder to LG. LG TV scart to TV. Start tape. Is recording visible on the TV screen?0 -
What's confusing about the manual?
Does it have a section entitled
'Recording from External Inputs'
'Recording from AV inputs'
or similar?
Does it mention external or AV inputs anywhere?
What's the model number?0 -
According to the manual for the DRT389H, you press the AV button repeatedly to select the AV input that you have the VHS machine connected to.
Have you done this (whether or not you're using a DRT389H or not)?0 -

I've cracked it. That's the one. There's no mention in the manual about that though.
Funny, I'm au fait with pc's but when it comes to anything else unless the intructions are idiot-proof...

My Cousin had the same problem with connecting the VHS player to his new DVD / H.D. video recorder.
I provided (long distance) simple drawings and instruction, with reference to inputs and outputs, and AV channel selection. He still couldn't do it though, after trying both scarts on the VHS, and both scarts on the DVD sequentialy.
Had to take an hours drive to his house, and it took two minutes to connect up, and worked just fine. Then an hours drive home. Mind boggles.
On another post about "technically blind" that I started though, I've also written how he also asked me how to rewind a DVD.0 -
I have this LG DVD Recorder. I think you've sorted it now though. PM me if ever you need a hand. It was a nightmare when I first got mineTopCashback £1792.63My Little World0
