When you buy property at auction do the auctioneers charge commission? If so how much on average?

You need to check each auctioneer's catalogue separately. Some do, some don't. I've paid from nothing to 1% plus VAT to auctioneers. Sometimes you pay the entire cost of the auctioneer for the seller.
Some sellers also insist that you pay their legal fees which might be a fixed fee or as much as 4% of the buying price
