Kindle 3 Won't Connect to Wireless Network

I've spent a couple of frustrating hours trying to do the above for a friend. It's not a wireless problem, as I can connect my iTouch to his network first time. It's not a Kindle problem, as I brought it home and it connected first time to my home network.
It's not a firewall issue (tried it with the firewall off). It's not a wireless encryption issue, using WPA-PSK (tried it with no encryption). The router does not have MAC address filtering enabled, so it's not that.
I've changed just about every wireless setting possible (SSID, channel, encryption mode), rebooted the hub several times as well, and am reduced to thinking it must be some obscure glitch between the Kindle and the router configuration.
Router is a BT HomeHub 1.0, set to run in b/g mode.
Only remaining thing to do is try it with a different router I guess.
Or have I missed something blindingly obvious?
It's the new Kindle, wi-fi only version. And the documentation is quite useless.

The problem I had with mine turned out to be me miskeying in the passcode, especially when using the symbol button to enter numeric characters.
Amazon have just released a new firmware for the Kindle 3, 3.1, it might be worth upgrading.
There is loads of 'help' on the Amazon Kindle site, and a friend used the telephone support which was excellent. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
No, the router is on Channel 11.
Deffo using the right password, and I've changed it several times as well.
You have to put the cursor on the non-numerics to select them, tedious but accurate. No free lunch, and no free laptop

HAve you tried the router in G only mode ? a friend had a problem with a wireless printer which was cured by switching it to g only, never could understand/find out why though4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . No, will try that when I go back with a spare router and see if that helps. That's probably the only setting I didn't change. The Kindle is B and G enabled so it shouldn't be an issue in theory...No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just went back and tried it with 'G only' rather than 'G/B'. It connected first time. Thanks debitcard!
But why-the Kindle is both b and g compatible, so it shouldn't matter?
I'm guessing it's a HomeHub specific issue though, as most routers must be set to b/g as the default? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Depends if the router was set to "only G" or "B/G" (not in those exact words but you get the drift!)
if it was set to "Only G" then you'll need a G or faster Wireless to connect.
If it was the other then it would look for G but let slower speeds connect.
Its one of those tiny annoying things that's easily missed, even for seasoned professionals!
I spent a whole day shouting at my old mobile and router when they would not connect!
till 2am in the moring i noticed the network was set to G and my phone wasn't "G" speeds! lolLaters

My router's set to "auto108" (Netgear router setting same as "b+g" settings) my kindle connected fine first time.
It might be that it was trying to connect at "b" speeds but was some interference that ment it didn't kick up to "g" speeds, but then you forced "g" speeds and it then connects.
anyhoo glad it's working...Laters
