Lowell Portfolio offered discount to pay off my debt in full - confused!

Hi
I have a CCJ which I have been paying £100 a month to Lowell Portfolio. I will be in a position to up the payment to them to £250 in the net month and wanted to find out how much I had left on the account (£2000) and he said he'd look to see if they could arrange a discount to pay it in full.
I didn't want to get into it as he said something about checking my credit report and I don't want a search to show up on my report, but I wondere dif anyone knew how thuis works - do I make an offer and they see if they will accept it, or do they offer an amount and see if I can afford it? And if so, how much would the discount be?
Thanks for any advice. I don't knwo if it's better to carry on with the higher payments or to see how much the discount would be.

Hi
Either option might work. Start by offering them an amount or ask them what they would accept. As there is a CCJ then it might be better to first see what they will accept and then see if you can haggle it down a bit more (assuming you had the money to make the offer).
Advice - if you plan on doing this you need written confirmation from them before you pay that the sum you will pay will be in full & final settlement of the debt and they will not chase you further for it and your CCJ will be marked as satisfied on your credit files - national debtline website has a useful factsheet on F&Fs covering this.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
