Contents insurance for flat-sharers

Hi,

I am live in London and like loads of other people I am flat-sharing.

I just bought an expensive laptop and wanted to get it insured. So I enquired regarding Contents Insurance and found that all big insurance companies refuse to cover me, if the sharer is not a family member. :o I dont own the flat and I am renting it off my flat-mate.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas? I want to cover all my contents and cover for damages outside the home as well.
