Hello
we had our beloved Freddy out to sleep on Monday ( 28th feb) he was 14 and his quality of life was very poor in the past month or so.
He was a standard poodle - we also have an 18month old Std Poodle pup ( well adolescent now I suppose!)
I wasn't sure about having the vet come to our house because two of my sisters poodles were pts at home and it wasn't a good experience for them - the dogs were very wary of the vet and I suppose associated "vet smells" invading their territory - so they were both quite agitated ( these dogs were PTS 10 years apart and by different vets btw)
her last dog was PTS at the vets ( a first for my sister) and she said she found it a much better experience for the dog himself- as sadly he had been very unwell and was quite used to attending the vets - so he was quite relaxed there and she said he went into the room quite happily.
We have always had our dogs PTS at the vets surgery- I couldn't bring myself to do it at home - but that is my feelings - nothing to do with the dog or the vets !
anyway- to your question about your other dog - I have to say our puppy has become quite subdued since Monday and it;s odd, but he really seems to have "grown up" and matured a bit- I don't know if he realises he is the only dog in the house from now- but he has definitely matured.
He has been fine going to bed at night and really, apart from his ears pricking up when we mention Freddy's name- he seems OK
i am so sorry for your loss- but I think you are making the right decision - your much loved boy shouldn't suffer any more than he has to
sending you love and hugs0 -
So sorry for this sadness.
I found with my dear departed dog, having the vet come out was by far the best thing. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
I am really sorry to hear that, I also have a rott and bone cancer is my biggest dread. I have no advice for you but (((hugs))), and I am sure you will make the right decisions for your boy.
Just out of curiosity, is your boy neutered?
Hello there
He has malignant melanoma rather than bone cancer but it did present in a similar way to bone cancer. One of his claws became detached because of a tumour in his nail bed.
He's a rescue, so he wasn't neutered until he was almost a year old.0
