Ecar Insurance problems

I have been using ecar's pay as you go insurance for the last year (as It gives a years NCD every 8 months) without any problems until now.

Last month my old car broke down and I replaced it, I updated the details online and everything went fine till the insurance was due to renew for this month on the 20th February. Money was taken by RBS Worldpay as usual this month so I believed the insurance policy was still in force.

A few days ago I was about to purchase my road tax disc when I realised I hadn't received my Insurance certificate this month, thinking it may have got lost in the post I went to website to print one off. The website is still showing certificate for month ending on the 20th February.

To confirm if my car was insured I checked at www askmid com which came back as no insurance showing on my car, so It appears that I have been driving around without insurance (including a trip from Birmingham to London and back). I'm just lucky nothing happened and that I didn't get stopped by the police.

I tried contacting Ecar over the last few days (sent emails to both the enquiries and complaints email addresses from their website and the contact form) but have not received any replies.

As I'm unable to tax my car without insurance I've now decided to take out daily temporary insurance with which hopefully I can tax my car.

Any advice on what I should do next to get my money back (monthly premium and money I've paid for the temporary daily insurance) or my insurance reinstated would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

till now you have tried contacting them virtually,, but do not wait anymore directly go in person

Easy to say that, but they are an on-line company ONLY.
It's really difficult to find anyone to talk to.
I found this out (with ebike) when they sent me an amendment fee through the post and said if I didn't pay they would cancel the insurance.
I didn't get the post immediately as it was recorded so I have to get to the depot to pick it up.
I couldn't get through and was going on holiday.

I called every number and jut got the same recorded message.
They are meant to answer their emails within 4 hours.
Generally they do but if it required intervention of an underwriter then clearly it could take longer.

For most things they are fine, but it's really difficult if what you want falls outside of what can be acheived on the website and you can't find anyone. They have a IT help line that costs £1 per minute.
I couldn't find anyone to talk to in person.
I think I sent emails with URGENT in it to get matters resolved quickly.

I checked on the askmid website about my son's insurance as we had changed insurers and that came up with uninsured. I had a panic and phoned the insurance up immediately and they said that it can take a while for it to be updated. Hope you get some answers soon.

Just checked his again (was due 25/2) and it is still showing as uninsured.
  • Hi, firstly I would like to let you know that the ASKMID is a guide and your actual policy is what covers you. The Police will rely on the data so it would be helpfull if you carry your docs incase you do get stopped.
The ecar database has tooo many flaus, they are not able to comunicate properly between there own depts so be very carefull. You'll know what I mean if you make a claim

Luckily I just bought my Road Tax using the one day policy so at leat can park my car on the road instead of squeezing it on to my dad's drive 30mins walk away but this means he has to park his on the road.

what really got me  was the fact they didn't inform me that my policy hadn't been renewed and let me drive around for so long uninsured.

I just received a missed call on my mobile from their parent company (brightside) so hopefully they'll ring back shortly.

Anyone know where I stand trying to claim back the cost of the temporary insurance I had to take out ?
