"The bedbug panic appears to be spreading to the skies. The Daily Mail of London reports "British Airways grounded two jumbo jets after a passenger complained of being badly bitten by bed bugs during two separate long-haul flights."
BA confirmed bedbugs had been found on one of those jets --both Boeing 747-400s -- and that it has put the plane back into service after being fumigated.
The story came to light after a 28-year-old Yahoo! executive claimed she was bitten by the bugs on two separate BA flights -- one from London Heathrow to Los Angeles in January and on another from Bangalore to London Heathrow in February. BA says it fumigated the 747 that flew the London-L.A. flight."

Absolutely no evidence in there that she was actually bitten by bugs on a BA flight. If you read her blog it sounds much more like she was desperate for a free upgrade which she was rightly denied. An 'infestation' which only affects a single passenger on two random flights and apparently only in economy, not business class ?

I do wish people wouldn't immediately believe everything written in the press.

Article: Ultimately I’m not interested in any kind of compensation from British Airways. What I’d like is some peace of mind regarding aircraft cleanliness for myself and other airline customers.’

If you read it again, you will see that she refused any compensation from BA, all she wanted was for them to admit the problem and get rid off it!

Article: Miss Selkirk was bitten while travelling in BA’s premium economy World Traveller Plus cabin.

Just because the article makes a claim doesn't make it genuine, there's actually no evidence that there were any bugs on a plane, nor that any planes were taken out of service - merely the accusation that they were by the newspaper. It's also worth considering that the passenger unknowingly took the bugs on the plane herself.
If you read it again, you will see that she refused any compensation from BA
    Unfortunately that isn't what she posted in her personal blog;

Sounds like good practice on the part of BA - they withdrew the plane as a precaution, found something* and treated the problem.

Am I the only person that doesn't get bitten whenever I use public transport? :o

    * Or did they? This is the Daily Mail we are talking about!

"Something" that might have come from the passenger in the first place - especially as she was the only one bitten on two flights.

Good point - they've got to have come from somewhere!

Not really actively looking for news. Just saw this article and thought it could interest travellers. That is the purpose of this forum, is it not?
It interested me as I'm to fly with them to LA in 1.5 month and creepy biting crawlies scare me.

Well I though that BA admitting they found bed bugs on that plane and treated it is evidence that bed bugs were there..

Posted this genuinely thinking that people might want to know, why are posters here having a go at me I don't understand..

Sorry, but where did BA admit anything? Just because a newspaper said they did doesn't make it real.
