Im posting my application form/cheque off !st class today. From whats been said, does it seem a pretty safe bet then not to move money into the cheque account Im funding from, until next Sun night?
Posted my cheque Friday - money not gone yet, (hopefully tomorrow) - you can probably wait until at least Wednesday, so Sunday should be fine

These accounts must have been in high demand...
Processing of Applications
We make every effort to process all applications as soon as we receive them, but in the event of high demand for a particular product, it can take longer than usual to process applications. We will start paying interest on receipt of cleared funds, however the account may take 10 working days to open provided there are no problems with your application.

Yes, in the end because of this , I decided to only invest 10k and BAC'd it across instead and sent application 1st class. Hopefully they will meet up at the beginning of next week. I figured it might have an advantage over letter and cheque put to one side and then waiting for clearance.Maybe , maybe not.

I've used Close Preium Gold accounts several times & like you, BACSed money in (usually on Mondays) with a posted application. Never had a problem - they've always linked them together and paid interest from date receipt of funds. Always make sure you quote surname & postcode as ref. on bank transfer though.

£10k @ 4.00% for 18months looks appealing, though the tax thing could be an issue.

Though I could split the £10k (and ever increasing) with my wife into 2x e-ISA accounts, as I notice that the AA have an ISA for 3.35%, which could be opened in the next financial year.

Close Brothers - £40 per month interest (before tax)
AA e-ISA - £35 per month interest (no tax involved)

Then you have the Northern Rock 3 year Fixed ISA with 120 days penalty for withdrawals. So again, earning £40 per month (tax free), with £120 (maximum of) loss on the account if a withdrawal.

For those people who have applied for this account, did you also have to send a photocopy of your bank statement for your nominated account?

I didn't do this..

There was something else you could send instead(can't remember what) :o- but I sent that as I didn't have a statement.
EDIT - a paying in slip or cancelled cheque
{Cheques sent Friday before last , cashed Tuesday this week - account details received yesterday}

Required was a bank statement or if that was unavailable a cancelled cheque or paying in slip for the account to be linked. I phoned up and it was confirmed that as I was making my deposit with a cheque drawn on the account to be linked there was no need to send any other evidence. That proved to be the case.
