Possibly missold a car?

Hi all,
This is my first post on this forum, I hope somebody can help me. I passed my driving test yesterday, and today went to pick up my first car from a fairly local dealership. The car is a T Reg VW Polo 1.0 Litre, and was described as having 5 months Tax and MOT until 06-2011. I paid the money, brought the car home and took it out for a decent drive. It was only when I got back this evening that I discovered some issues with the paperwork. The MOT certificate that the dealer gave me shows the MOT as having expired in June 2010, a year prior to the date shown in the listing. Furthermore the piece of paperwork I'm supposed to send to DVLA is for a completely different numberplate.
The listing also states that the car has a manual sunroof - which it doesn't. Unfortunately with this being my first ever purchase of a car I was too swept up in the occasion to check all the paperwork and to be honest, to even check that the car was the correct specification.
My real question to you fine people is this, do I have any recourse on any of the above? Clearly the dealer is lousy with paperwork, since he's given me a piece of paper that he'll need to sell one of his other cars, so I'm assuming that he's also just not given me the most recent MOT certificate. The car has apparently clocked up about 20k miles since the MOT in 09, so I'm sure he would have noticed that the numbers were so different. Am I within my rights to request that he pay for the car to go through an MOT if it turns out that isn't MOT'd currently?
Essentially, help!
I eagerly await your responses, thank you in advance.
Matt.

Matt.
Sounds like all the paperwork the dealer has given you is for another car (not the one you have bought).
Just give the dealer a ring tomorrow and see what he has to say..the problem may be easily put right. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
The paperwork is for my car, apart from the bit I need to send to DVLA.0

I would be more concerned that you may be driving a car that isn't MOT'd, however it does seem the dealer may just be crap at paperwork, you need to go back to the dealer ASAP and sort out the paperwork, as any paperwork issues are the responsibility of the driver, not the dealer that sold you the car.0

I wonder if you have enough paperwork to check the MOT status here?0

Surely! You have a receipt for your money, that specifies what he sold you in exchange for that money?
Where did it say, that the MOT ran until June 2011? Can you produce that as evidence of his claim?
Don't fancy your chances of demanding he pay for an MOT, but it may be worth a try. Your best bet is challenging him that he misold you the car by using a false description.
Knew one dealer, that sent his cars for MOT, and via arrangement (ha ha) they ALL got an MOT, with a list of what needed doing to them, to correct faults that would have failed them.
Needless to say, none of the work was ever carried out.
MOT's not worth the paper they are printed on I'm afraid.
Do you want an MOT for legal reasons? Or do you want an MOT to say your car is safe (at THIS time)?0 -
Ok guys, thanks for your kind advice. The dealer has been in touch with me to provide me the certificate number of the last MOT - and it still is MOT'd until June, he just didn't give me the certificate when I picked the car up.
So basically, problem solved. Thanks again to all who offered advice.
All the best,
Matt.0
