should probably have added those using a hardware firewall though0 -
Antivirus is irrelevant -it's malware not a virus. The only thing that's flagged it's onset has been my firewall, Outpost.
I keep malwarebytes and combofix handy.
Even running antivirus, or attempting to, is a waste of time if it's got in.0 -
I have avast, and online armour free, plus use FF with security addons. Commonsense, a good antivirus, firewall, and secure web browser protects from malware.0

Not infected, but 'disinfected' a laptop for someone else this weekend; they also had other multiple backdoor trojans, rootkits, etc. User commented that if a window pops up saying 'install me', that is exactly what they do!!!
Laptop was running 360.cn (appears to be chinese anti-trojan software) alongside AVG free and Rising Personal Firewall (chinese).
As well as affecting hosts file, System Tool can also change an internet option which stops you from browsing (paras 4-7 on link below); for those of you who have internet access problems.
