credit as you are covered if the goods don't turn up/ aren't as described or if the company takes more money than you authorize.

A credit card would normally be considered safer due to the additional protection.

But the safest way is not to click the 'iPad for sale for £99' flashing banner. If you see what I mean...
  • I would use credit card online or offline (and pay off in full each month). More protection - http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/before_you_buy/online-shopping/safe-shopping
  • thanks for the advice.
i used to buy online all the time with my debit card until just before christmas someone in america tried taking my money now im to scared to buy online.
credit card sounds like a safer option then :)

If you buy things online much safer using a credit card as you get more protection from the consumer credit act. the reason credit card fraud is sorted so quickly is that its the credit card's money you are using so theyve got a vested interest in getting it sorted. a debit card is your money so yes the banks can do a chargeback. but they have to wait min of 30 days from the date the money is debited from your account before they can raise a debit card dispute. even then theres no guarantee youll get your money back.
