It appears as well that P*** W****, who masterminded the XL collapse is involved with Tor Air, and that the managing director of Viking Airlines is on the board of Tor Air.

    It's almost incestous.....

XL > Kiss Flights > Viking > Tor Air. Incestuous? Definately. Illegal? Sadly not.
We have our holiday booked in Cyprus for May, from Birmingham with Olympic, flying with Monarch. From this and other sources I suspect we'll be receiving something from Olympic in the near future contradicting said arrangements. Wait and see I suppose.

Monarch are operating their own scheduled services to Cyprus from Birmingham this summer. Olympic may be taking seats on those flights so you may be ok. Go to the Olympic Holidays site not and try and book your holiday and see what flight details come up?

    Newshound!
Thanks Bagand. They are indeed still quoting Monarch, but the article below still causes concern:

    http://www.travelweekly.co.uk/articles/2011/02/10/36072/olympic+holidays+secures+airline+for+summer+flights.html

The only thing that initially caused concern was that the 5kg extra baggage allowance option had disappeared. Then the plot thickened....

Richard, i agree, but EU261/2004 is aimed at airlines, not tour operators. It is the tour operators directive that covers them (not exactly sure of the regulation). I agree, if monarch had actually planned to operate the route, and then pulled the plug, blame monarch. However in this instance, i think the blame 100% lies with Olympic.

    There's this in the Regulation

    Article 13
    Right of redress
In cases where an operating air carrier pays compensation or meets the other obligations incumbent on it under this Regulation, no provision of this Regulation may be interpreted as restricting its right to seek compensation from any person, including third parties, in accordance with the law applicable. In particular, this Regulation shall in no way restrict the operating air carrier's right to seek reimbursement from a tour operator or another person with whom the operating air carrier has a contract. Similarly, no provision of this Regulation may be interpreted as restricting the right of a tour operator or a third party, other than a passenger, with whom an operating air carrier has a contract, to seek reimbursement or compensation from the operating air carrier in accordance with applicable relevant laws.
