Admiral-Group 10 Month NCB - Opinions?

Got to renew my car insurance in the next fortnight, and the Admiral group (Bell / Elephant / Admiral) are the cheapest.
They also offer a 10 month policy option, giving you a years no claim in less time. But i'm worried as to who accepts it - for me smaller brokers don't give very quotes, so i'd be staying mainstream for the time-being or so.
Would I be right in assuming that all big companies take the 10 month policies as a years no claims?
The sums involved are £868 for 10 months, or £973 for 12 months - which works out 7% more expensive.
Worth it?
As an aside - anyone got any more Admiral-group discount ideas?

Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

I started off using "bonus accelerators" and had no problems with other Insurers accepting these as proof of my NCB....
Go for it....!Reassuringly expensive0 -
Try Co-op online car insurance, i tried all the usual on-line websites (Confused, Compare the Market etc) and then tried on the Co-op website and it came out cheapest by quite a bit.
Although I am in the same situation as you, earned my NCD via Bell 10 months policy and have just sent my NCD off to Co-op so not sure if they will accept the 10 months as full years NCD.0 -
I didn't have any problems with AA accepting my NCB from the time I was with Admiral. It's quite a useful way to build up your NCB that wee bit faster. And once AA accepted it, it meant all the others accepted the AA's ... if you know what I mean. It seemed to work for me.
Admiral were quite good as a company too, I had two no fault claims with them & both were dealt with very quickly, but for some reason they got uncompetitive the older I got & more years NCB I accrued.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
I moved from Admiral to Aviva who had no issue in accepting the proof. It still states on the schedule ' 1 Years NCD ' etc

I wouldn't trust admiral to inssure my laces are tied.
I have in the last month changed my policy to a multi car policy with them. What a mistake to make,
1 Quoted me a price, then increased it when I am about to pay.
2 Taken money for the renewal of the policy for no1 3 months before it was due and after they told me they wouldn't.
3 Managed to spell my name wrong on cover notes and policy (This is after me being a customer for 2 years and them spelling it right)
4 today I get a letter informing me they are charging me another £48 as they haven't received proof of no claims from my previous insurance company, (read point 3 and guess what company that would be)
Any one of these mistakes in a year would be a pain, but this is on a policy that is 1 month old.
And don't forget they will automatically renew your policy when the 10 months is up then charge you to cancel it if you wish to go else where.0 -
I had one of these kind of policies with my very first insurance premium (1 year no claims after 6 months), but when I came to renew, it was only accepted by the original insurer(not admiral, can't remember who) so I ended up paying for 18 months worth of insurance before I got my first years no claims discount!
If you can find out that it will definitely be accepted then go with the cheaper one, but in my experience insurance companies will use any trick/load of rubbish in the book to make you pay more.
ie. The insurance group for my 1.2 Skoda Fabia has lept from 3 to 9 because lots of accidents involve Skoda Fabias, ... apparently! :mad:0
