What is the correct etiquette when....

you have a code for free delivery and select a date for delivery (within a few working days) for some items which are required for a specific time.
However the day before your delivery is due on account of an "an error" you're told that your delivery is delayed and they can only promise to deliver it within 6 weeks. They offer to refund del. charges, however you paid none.
The refund serves as an apology for those who paid, but if you didn't pay you are in a worse off position too but there is no recompense?

Etiquette is irrelevant really - it depends on the contract you had with the supplier. If you placed your order on the condition that it would be delivered by a certain date, then you can cancel the contract as the supplier is unable to meet the terms.
If you are happy to wait for the later delivery (or didn't specify that the delivery must be made by a certain date) then you can wait for the goods to be delivered in 6 weeks' time.
What is it you want to happen, anyway? Do you just want the goods as soon as possible, or do you want to cancel the order, or do you want compensation for the delay? It was, perhaps, nice of the company to offer a refund of the delivery charges (although it makes no difference to you personally), but if they're not offering any alternative/additional compensation, I doubt there is much you can do.0 -
Common trick - just like those sites who claim to have hundreds in stock but as soon as you have placed an order they have suddenly all gone and there won't be any more for x weeks - cancel it.0

There was another code worth twice as much that I could have used on the order but it was not compatible with the sale items + free delivery. I found out after it was quite compatible without the free delivery.
Realizing my mistake after the fact I asked for the code to be added (they do this with codes, it's their policy)and the free del. taken off but they couldn't make it happen. This code was worth twice the amount and I wasted my code allowance on a delivery charge for 24 hour delivery/specific date which is now redundant.
To be honest with you, as they are offering refunds I would like the delivery charge replaced via another free 24 delivery code. I didn't get what the code stipulated, free next day delivery. I would have been better off using the alternative code and paying a lesser delivery charge myself.
The store offers 24 hr delivery for a higher price as an option, so contractually they very well might have to issue refunds when you place an order with that option and they fail to honor it. But i'm not sure of this and the t&c's don't seem to address this particular issue.0 -
