Laptop got infected with System Tool, but desktops weren't. Laptop runs Vista, desktops are XP and Vista.
I shut down the laptop, and powered it on again. With it having booted up, but still at the password login screen, I was able, via the network, to access shared folders on the laptop from the desktops and copy the work I needed over to one of them.
Haven't seen any indication that the data files are infected with anything.
Bear this in mind if you have more than one PC in the household and only one is infected.

This is very important advice as some viruses spread to other machines either through infecting files or using a network exploit.0

Bump.
Still no sign, having used the data files I copied from the infected machine, that there's anything amiss with them - so it doesn't seem to spread that way.0
