  • How many 12 year olds have photographic ID, other than a passport?

Sounds like you got a right "jobsworth"!

oh tell me about it....what happened was the SO which I set up to 'pay' (trying to get him used to manage his finances!) his pocket money monthly somehow went missing - money gone from my account, but did not appear in his (had been set up and running fine, so really don't know what went wrong)

well previously we had been through the rigmarole of security on the phone, and he gave his permission for me to speak on his behalf, so, when this happened, I rang up - before I could even explain, they said security was failed, and locked his account!!! They will not speak to him now even on the phone, and we have to go into branch with photographic ID to unlock the account.

since there is no money in it (well, maybe a few pence) - i think it will be easier to just open him another account elsewhere - as has been pointed out, don't need photographic ID for a new account!!

  • oh and my bank finally found out what happened to the money - apparently it was refused by HSBC for incorrect details...funny, since I made no changes to the SO, and it went fine before!!

    I give up!

Yes I believe the child has to be present. And that's provided the child has passed the minimum age requirement to opening a new bank account.
