Car insurance help please
Just called my insurance co. to find I've not been insured since changing vehicle last September. Already had a policy with them and called to change vehicle, given a quote for new car, payments changed, money taken from account. Today I phoned to ask for a copy of policy to discover that they never changed the vehicle just changed the payments. Now they want to charge me £164 to cancel policy for none existent car and have almost doubled the quote for the car they should have had insured. What if anything can I do about this ?

Financial Services Ombudsman
Oh, and phone another company and get insured ASAP.0 -
Thanks for advice Hammy. I'm already looking around for another company. I just didn't know what to do about the first one. Spent the whole day on the phone and brain is scrambled.0

You need to make a "complaint" first to the insurer and see what their reaction is before asking the FOS to intervene. Read up on FOS:

Are you out of pocket? If so ask them to refund you any money you are owed. Also make sure you get proof off them of any NCD you have earned.0 -
You could always ask for the conversation to be checked out. I did this once when they tried to claim I wasn't insured because the bike was different to the one they had insured (stopped by the Police).
Thing is we had changed it with them and thanks to 'all calls are recorded for training purposes' they had to admit they had agreed to change the policy over and cover the different vehicle and supplied a certificate of insurance on that basis.
Still moved at renewal though.

Hi 5t that's exactly what they say they are going to do, so it might just work out ok.0
