CSA Advice Second Job

Hi guys hope someone can clear something up for me.

I have not informed the csa about my second job and have been doing it now for quite some time. I dont really associate with anyone from the past when I was with my ex (mother of my child) and she does not allow me to see my son due to her horrible nature :o

I am thinking now about coming clean and informing them but am obviously worried about the arrears that would be payable upon telling them. My query... if I rang them at the beginning of the new tax year (april 2011) and told them about my additional income, provided payslips etc and told them I had just recently started working for them... would they take this and not really investigate as to when I actually started with the company, as naturally this was 2 years ago. After all, surely there is a chance they may think how good I have been to inform them?

I have actually always got on well with the csa, always paid on time etc etc... but would like to go on the straight and narrow now providing I do not get stung of course with arrears etc

Hope someone can assist?

The change of circumstances (i.e. 2nd job) should only affect your payments from the date you inform them. So if you phone tomorrow and tell them you now have a 2nd job, they should only change your arrangements from tomorrow. You are under no legal obligation to inform the CSA of changes in income or jobs unless you are paying via deduction of earnings order.

Oh right but I am correct in saying that I should of advised them ages ago or when I first started the second job?

So if I call up mid april and explain about the new income they will take my word as gospel in terms of me stating I have only just started working for them?... and then I will be paying what I should be paying.

You were and still are under no legal obligation to inform them you have started a 2nd job or have had an increase in income.

If your ex contacted them tomorrow and asked for a reassessment, however, then you would have to tell them the truth about your employment and income circumstances, as to not do would leave you liable for £1000 fine. The change would be backdated in those circumstances to when your ex asked them to look at your case again, not when the job started.

I wouldn't like to say what the CSA will or will not take as gospel as sometimes it seems as though they make up the rules as they go along!

My son is 4 and I have had 3 reviews to date actually 4 because the ex thought I was earning more than I was stating... each review went through nothing ever came up.

Do you think its because I am on a BR tax code with the second job? that it never came up.

My worry is of course whether they all of a sudden state I owe thousands in arrears which I cannot afford.

I hope to be starting up a IVA soon and realise that the csa payment has to be 15% of my income, so it is plainly obvious (aswell as the IP being able to see if they check) that the direct debit that goes out to them is short by about £45.

Even if you are paying by a DOE they will do sugar all about it if you don't tell them.

So basically they will never find out unless I tell them?

What about when I enter a IVA surely the IP may wonder why I am not paying the 15% as set aside in my budget :(

Guys in relation to my second job, how come the csa have not spotted this then even when I have been re-assessed?

As naturally I pay tax (BR code) so surely in correspondence with the HMRC they would be able to see the second income?

Did you send in payslips from both jobs at the time of request for you to submit them?

    Nope... only main job.

The longer it goes on with regards them not knowing the more paranoid I am getting they will find out.

I see my options as being...

    1. quit current second job which I have been with for quite some time and therefore all being well this will remain in the past. (as will all arrears)
    2. get a new second job and declare this straight away and therefore no arrears as I have just started working for them?

    What do you think gentleman?
