Large payment in $ - better on cc?

in Credit cards
Was wondering if anyone could give any quick help - my brother's studying with an institution based in the US and has to make a rather large tuition payment today. He was going to do this by BACS but someone mentioned the fees/exchange might be better on a credit card.
I realise there may be factors involved I'm not aware of (relating to admin fees/exchange rates) but does anyone have any general advice relating to this (his bank is Lloyds TSB FWIW)?

How large?
He might be able to get a better rate by going through a currency broker rather than settling with the bank's advertised rate.0 -
He won't be able to do a BACS payment to the US so the choices are a credit card or international payment whether through a bank or a forex broker.0

Check if they will levy a fee for paying by CC. If they don't and you have time to apply for a forex loading free card, then this is the best way to go (if you get sufficient limit).0
