Blu-Ray disc question

Options
I bought a used Blu-Ray film from a seller the other day and it arrived today.

I was on my PS3 doing something else and I decided to put the disc in there to try. I did notice that the edge of the disc (on the playable side) was a bit brown, when I put it in, it just kept on making a whirring noise and wouldn't read (I have had a couple like that from Lovefilm). I tried wiping the disc and it still wouldn't read. Luckily I have a separate Blu-Ray player, so was able to try that. After a few strange clicking noises, it did eventually come up with "loading" and came up with the disc menu.

The film cost me less than £5, so is it worth bringing it up with the seller?

I don't think the disc is a copy. Not sure why it would be brown round the edge, have never seen that before.

I know there's nothing wrong with my PS3, as other discs I have play ok.

I would say it is the start of something being wrong with your PS3. Now might be the time to get a CD/DVD head cleaner and give it a go.

I have just tried the disc in a Panasonic Blu Ray player (an older model of the one I have). The disc spins and whirs a bit, comes up with "reading", so it looks like it's going to play and then displayed on the screen, I get....

    *Copyright Violation*

Another update:- I have searched and apparently this message is common with my model of Blu Ray player (Panasonic DMP BD35) as per AV forums, but that still doesn't explain why it won't work in the PS3.

That disc sounds like it may have been burnt by a damaged blu ray laser, also what region is the disc A,B or C? PS3 only play region B discs.

Just seen this on a site selling Blu-Ray films,

Dear customers, we inform you that it is sometimes necessary to update your Blu-ray in order to read or enjoy all the features of certain films. (Update firmware)

I can't see where it says this, we are currently updating the firmware on the blu ray player it doesn't work on.

Update:- Sucessfully updated the firmware (finally!) and the disc still won't play. :(

Have contacted the seller and I'm returning it tomorrow for a refund.

I suspect he's sold me a non-UK release as there's no reference to it being Cert 15 on the cover or on the disc. There's just very small letters that say PG-13, which I think is USA?

On the listing though he's put it as "Region Free ABC".
