Help with Tax Credit amendment

Hi All,

Having filed my accounts in January for year ending april 2010 it occurred to me that as my income was a fair bit lower on my account to that declared to hmrc i should inform them and (hopefully) there may be a rebate due.

In essence I was self employed for part of 2009 / 2010 and then established a ltd company. When the accountant filed my accounts my income was reduced as part of the accounting process.

My income reduced from around £17,500 to just over £12,500 because of purchase of goodwill by the ltd company.

I informed the HMRC of the change on the 1st February and was given the notorious 0845 6005264 number which I have been completely unable to get through on.

Speaking to the normal tax office on the 23rd they advised that apparently my original request had been sent to the wrong department and it could now take a further 6 -12 weeks to be assessed.

Does anyone have any experience of these situations and what is the likely timescale for it to be assessed - hopefully it wont run to 12 weeks.

thanks for your input.

For advising them of a change it normally takes a couple of weeks but that was from speaking directly to the tax credit department, not sure if it's any different for your situation but you'll get an award notice through to let you know :)

I think the deadline for letting CTC/WTC know about confirmed not estimated income for self employed was 31st Jan. That's what they told me anyway. Before that date, if you let them know your confirmed income they will backpay what you are owed. After 31st May, they do not have to pay any back pay.

    Hope that helps.
