Cleaning roman blinds

Hi, I have roman blinds and quite heavy curtains. This is the first time I will be cleaning them. My sister in law advised me that you can just leave them up and dust them down as they seem fiddly to take down but I would feel better giving them a proper clean. Any ideas on how to clean roman blinds in particular.

You will be surprised at how much dust and dirt they collect, particularly on the folds.
I have recently started to clean my roman blinds, which are cream, 7 years old, and came with the house I've bought. I tried washing one at about 30 degrees, I think. The tape on the back puckered up and the smooth finish on the material has come off. If desperate, you could try washing them on a cold wash but I would try it out on one which is easy to replace if necessary ...
I'm taking the rest of mine to the dry cleaners, Johnsons are my local one. They measure each blind length / width, and charge about £3-4 per metre which I reckon is reasonable enough. The dry clearning doesn't get all of the grease marks out, nor any water marks, but brings them up nicely without losing too much of the surface texture.
Yes, it is a little fiddly undoing the knots but it's not too hard to put them back up again. Mine attach by velcro so it's easy enough, you just need to get the cords at an even length to ensure the blind moves up and down horizontally.0 -
Hi, thanks for this, it does seem a better idea to have them dry cleaned than put them in the washer. I have been talking to someone who says she vacs hers with a dust buster as she is too wary of taking them down. Mine are attached with velcro aswell, its the strings that look fiddly.0
